According to Joe Igbokwe, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), some indigenous people may be funding banditry in Anambra State due to the unpleasant events surrounding the closing of the main market in Onitsha.
Tension in Onitsha has reportedly increased since Governor Charles Soludo closed the market in response to the Indigenous People of Biafra’s (IPOB) Monday sit-at-home.
Protesting vendors and security personnel enforcing the closure have been at odds.
In response, Igbokwe stated in a statement on Wednesday night that it is “looking and sounding as if Anambra people are the ones hosting Bandits, the ones supporting their activities in the South East, the most patriotic and the sponsors of their murderous activities and criminalities in the zone.”
Governor Soludo has drawn a line: either open the Onitsha Main Market on Monday and carry on with your business, or you risk losing a week of inactivity. We are currently in the state that has served as the foundation of the South East.
“Everyone is observing the drama as it progresses. However, the sponsors of mayhem will never prevail in this game. Perhaps market leaders believe they are above the law.
Part of the message said, “The leaders are demonstrating to us that they are fully IPOB commanders and sponsors through actions and deeds.”
