In Ogbunike, Oyi local council area, Anambra State, police have found suspected human parts of a nurse who was killed by a man who enticed her to seek treatment there.
The body parts were found in a native doctor’s temple connected to the incident, according to a statement issued by Superintendent of Police Ikenga Tochukwu, the Police Public Relations Officer. Meanwhile, investigators stepped up their search for the main suspect and other collaborators.
On July 25, 2025, the Anambra State Police Command, with the help of the Umueri village, Ogbunike community members, arrested a 24-year-old woman named Somtochukwu Nwafor in connection with the horrific murder of a pregnant nurse, whose disfigured body was recently found in a soakaway pit in the community, according to Ikenga.
During the interrogation, Ikenga added, the suspect admitted to being the girlfriend of Chiemerie Obika Elobisi, the major suspect, who lives in the same village but is currently unaccounted for.
She said that following the victim’s murder, the suspect called her to clean up the bloodstains. She also disclosed how the body parts are sold to several malevolent local physicians.
Additionally, the statement claims that preliminary evidence indicates the murderer tricked the victim, a qualified nurse, into coming to his home in order to obtain medication.

In the early hours of July 29, 2025, State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) agents, armed with the suspect’s information, destroyed the shrine of a native physician named Nwafor Chibunna Ofornwatadile from Itima Amawa Village, Ogbunike, and found suspected human body parts hidden in cellophane (nylon) bags.
The command has begun a manhunt for the main suspect, as well as the alleged collaborators and receivers, he stated.
The horrific act was strongly denounced by Police Commissioner Ikioye Orutugu, who called it “inhumane, criminal, and an affront to public morality and the sanctity of life.” He also urged anyone with information that could help the Police with the ongoing investigation to come forward, and he promised that the identity of those informants would be sufficiently protected.
