In Benue State, Ojema Ojotu, a member representing the Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency, has switched from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu presided over Tuesday’s plenary, where a letter announcing his defection was read.
According to reports, Ojotu, the chairman of the House Committee on Inland Water Ways, claimed that the ongoing internal PDP turmoil and unsolved leadership difficulties were the reasons behind his defection.
He went on to say that the APC offers him a more secure platform to go on serving his constituency’s residents and advancing the country.
“With effect from Wednesday, October 8, 2025, I hereby formally notify the Speaker and my honorable colleagues of my decision to resign my membership in the Peoples Democratic Party,” the letter states.
“The ongoing internal crises, ongoing leadership struggle, and severe divides within the party from the national to the federal constituency have left the party without a clear direction, necessitating this choice.
“I have made the decision to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) following extensive discussions with my family, important stakeholders, political associates, and the good people of my area. a platform that, in my opinion, provides a more forward-thinking setting for me to continue serving my people’s interests and advancing national advancements.
Ahead of the Nigerian elections in 2027, the PDP has had a number of defections, this one being the most recent.
