The grant of a ₦678 million contract for the restoration of the Sango-Timi Shrine and Grove at Timi’s Palace in Ede has drawn criticism from the All Progressives Congress (APC) Osun State chapter.
Kola Olabisi, the party’s director of media and information, signed a press release on Thursday declaring that the initiative was an act of favoritism and a misplaced priority.
According to the party, the state government only added other historical sites to its tourism development plan after the contentious Ede shrine deal caused a stir.
The action, according to the APC, was a last-minute attempt to mislead the state’s citizens.
How come the governor considered designating other historical tourism attractions throughout the state to be developed in stages after the ₦678 million contract he awarded for the construction of the Sango Shrine in his town was widely criticized?
As a clear insult to the sensibilities of the people in this state, the plan has failed, the party continued.
Additionally, the opposing party contended that the project provided no real economic advantage in comparison to the state’s other urgent requirements.
“It is concerning that nearly twice as much money was allotted to this shrine project as was made available by the government as an education subsidy in the first half of this year,” Olabisi stated.
It also highlighted unfulfilled promises regarding the welfare of workers, pointing out that by the second quarter, none of the ₦6 billion allocated for the payment of gratuity arrears in 2025 had been disbursed.
“Just ₦500 million, or 11.1% of the ₦4.5 billion budgeted, has been disbursed for gratuity payments, while ₦998 million, or 14.3% of ₦7 billion, has been released for the Contributory Pension Scheme,” the APC reported.
Accusing Governor Adeleke of focusing development on his hometown of Ede, the party stated that seven road projects totaling more than ₦70 billion were awarded for dualization in Ede in 2025 alone, while projects in Ife, Osogbo, and Ilesa remained unfinished.

Nearly two years after Adeleke made her earlier pledge to deliver five flyovers within a year, it was added that two had not yet started and three were still unfinished.
In addition, the APC questioned why Ede was given consideration for the first stage of cultural and tourism development if the goal was to increase tourism and promote history throughout Osun State.
Osogbo, Ilesa, Ile-Ife, and Ede cities’ tourism sites have been upgraded, according to a statement sent by state governor Ademola Adeleke on Wednesday through his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.
The improvements were in accordance with the administration’s plan to expand the tourism and creative industries in order to obtain UNESCO status, Governor Adeleke further revealed.
“The goal is to increase the number of visitors to the state’s cultural sites by more than 60% within the next year,” he added.
