In the current Federal Capital Territory elections, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has won three area councils.
The Independent National Electoral Commission conducted the elections on Saturday in the six area councils of the FCT, AMAC, Bwari, Kwali, Abaji, Gwagwalada, and Kuje.
According to sources, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won Gwagwalada and the APC has won AMAC, Bwari, and Kwali thus far. As of the time of writing, the results for Kuje and Abaji were still pending.
The incumbent chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council, Christopher Maikalangu of the APC, was re-elected.
Prof. Andrew Abue, the AMAC Collation Officer, proclaimed Maikalangu the victor with 40,295 votes out of 62,861 valid votes.
Abue claims that the PDP candidate received 3,398 votes, whilst the African Democratic Congress candidate received 12,109 votes.
He also mentioned that 2,336 ballots were invalidated, making 65,197 votes cast overall.
Abue added that 65,676 voters were accredited for the election, while 837,338 individuals were registered to vote in AMAC.
After receiving the most votes, the collation officer declared, “Maikalangu is hereby returned elected.”
The APC’s Joshua Ishaku was proclaimed the victor of the Bwari Area Council’s chairmanship election.
According to Prof. Mohammed Nurudeen, the Returning Officer, who made the announcement on Sunday, Ishaku received 18,466 votes.
For the 2026 FCT Area Council, Bwari chairmanship, which took place on February 21, 2026, I am the returning officer.
“That Joshua Ishaku is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected after fulfilling the legal requirements,” Nurudeen stated.
With 4,254 votes, the ADC candidate placed third, followed by the Zenith Labour Party candidate with 3,515 votes.
Ten wards—Igu, Shere, Dutse, Ushafa, Byazhin, Kuduru, Kubwa, Usuma, Bwari Central, and Kawu—were used for the Bwari election.
Daniel Nuhu of the APC received 17,032 votes to win the leadership position on the Kwali Area Council.
With 8,575 votes, his nearest opponent, PDP candidate Haruna Pai, came in second.
The APC has grabbed an early lead in the FCT polls, having won three of the six councils that have been announced thus far.
The focus now turns to Abaji and Kuje, where results are anticipated to be announced at any time, according to observers.
