The State Independent Electoral Commission, or KANSIEC, is holding local government elections on Saturday, but the Kano State All Progressives Congress, or APC, claims that this is unlawful.
Rabi’u Bichi, a party chieftain, said as much during a Saturday interview in Kano with the News Agency of Nigeria.
The party’s position is supported by a ruling that declared the election unlawful and was issued by Justice Simon Amobeda of the Federal High Court in Kano. The ruling is still in effect.In favor of the state’s ruling New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), the judge declared that KANSIEC’s leadership was biased and political.
Since the ruling has not been challenged, he stated, “the APC believes that any election result is unlawful.”
According to the APC chieftain, the party’s assertions that the election is unlawful have been further supported by a recent Federal High Court ruling that invalidated all NNPP candidates for chairmanships.
He did, however, advise all party members to wait for the conclusion of the legal actions the party is taking to contest the way the elections were conducted.
As reported by NAN, Sani Malumfashi, the chairman of the KANSIEC, emphasized that the commission is operating within the legal parameters. All of the commission’s operations follow protocol. Our stance is nonpartisan.

He also asked KANSIEC employees and ad hoc employees to reject bribery temptations and make sure that minors are not let to vote.
Mr. Malumfashi also reminded politicians that thuggery, vote-buying, and other violent acts are against the state’s electoral regulations.
All Democrats and proponents of democracy are expected to uphold Friday’s Kano High Court ruling, which let the election to take place, he said.
Kano State High Court No. 15 upheld KANSIEC’s authority to call the Kano State local government elections on Friday. The elections are set for Saturday, October 24, 2024.
The applicant’s case was successfully proven, according to Justice Sanusi Ado Maaji’s ruling.
