APC Replies Peter Obi: “Tinubu Not Missing, Focused on National Duties”

President Bola Tinubu is still actively involved in national matters, according to the All Progressives Congress (APC), which has rejected accusations that he is AWOL or missing from government.

Following remarks attributed to Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential contender, who questioned the President’s visibility and whereabouts amid Nigeria’s economic and security issues, the ruling party responded.

President Tinubu was neither absent nor disregarding his constitutional duties, according to a statement released by the APC on Tuesday, January 13, and made accessible to Lagos newsmen by its Lagos State Spokesman, Seye Oladejo.

Oladejo claims that both domestically and internationally, the President continues to be heavily involved in the intricate business of governing.

Oladejo declared, “The President is neither missing nor absent from his constitutional responsibilities.”

He clarified that public appearances and continuous media attention should not be the only aspects of administration.

He stated, “He is actively involved in the complex and demanding work of statecraft, which includes diplomatic engagements, economic reforms, security oversight, and policy coordination.”

“Government is not measured by constant public appearances or media check-ins,” Oladejo continued. It is evaluated based on the caliber of choices made, the policies put into place, and the results produced in the interest of the country.

Tinubu Concentrated on National Issues
The APC spokesperson further emphasized that President Tinubu has continued to carry out his responsibilities with dedication and resolution, fully adhering to the mandate that Nigerians have given him.

“National priorities, not the need to appease political commentary, drive his schedule and engagements,” Oladejo stated.

In order to reposition Nigeria for sustained prosperity and increased global significance, he pointed out that the administration has continued to be active in a number of crucial areas, including international diplomacy, security cooperation, and economic reforms.

Oladejo called on opposition leaders and political personalities to interact more positively by presenting options and solutions that would promote the growth of the country.

He cautioned that unwarranted conjecture over the President’s whereabouts could exacerbate public unease during a crucial period.

He suggested that “political actors should concentrate on issues of substance rather than optics.”

According to reports, Peter Obi had inquired about President Tinubu’s whereabouts amid what he called growing economic hardship, insecurity, and silence from the leadership.

Obi expressed his worries on Monday on his verified 𝕏 (previously Twitter) account, citing the severity of the nation’s problems and what he saw as the lack of direct presidential involvement.

He claimed that in 2025, President Tinubu traveled outside of Nigeria for 196 days, which was more than the number of days the President spent inside the nation.

Additionally, Obi asserted that the President had not communicated with Nigerians directly since December 2025.

As part of his year-end vacation and in advance of an official visit to the United Arab Emirates, President Tinubu left Lagos for Europe on December 28.

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, asked the President to take part in Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week in 2026.

Tinubu’s arrival in Abu Dhabi on Sunday and his attendance at the event, which started on Monday, highlight his ongoing involvement in international diplomacy and debates about global sustainability.
