A fake Facebook account created in his name to defraud unwary Nigerians has been brought to the public’s attention by Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, the All Progressives Congress (APC) senator representing the Oyo South Senatorial District.
His media office sent a statement on Sunday in which the legislator called the act illegal and cautioned his constituents against interacting with the fake.
He never uses social media for commercial or financial activities, Alli emphasized.
“The public is strongly advised not to transact or communicate with anyone on social media platforms, especially Facebook, Messenger, or any other similar channels, claiming to represent Senator Alli,” the statement read.
Social media is not used by the Senator to solicit money, personal information, or business transactions.
The senator urged everyone to be on the lookout for unusual activity and to report it.
“We respectfully ask anyone with information regarding the impostor to report to the closest police station so that appropriate action can be taken,” the statement continued.
Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), the immediate former Rivers State Administrator, and the Rivers State House of Assembly may be on the verge of conflict after the lawmakers decided to look into state spending during the six-month emergency.
Ibas reportedly resigned as state administrator on September 17 when President Bola Tinubu ordered lawmakers, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, and his deputy to return to their positions and ended the emergency rule.
Under Speaker Martin Amaewhule’s leadership, the Assembly decided to look into financial transactions that took place during that time at its first plenary after resumption.
The legislators stated that they intended “to investigate the procedure of learning what happened during the emergency rule with respect to spending from the consolidated revenue fund for the award of contracts and other expenditures.”
Ibas responded by saying the Assembly did not appoint him and so had no right to look into him.
Ibas claimed in an interview with Punch on Sunday that the investigation was essentially a challenge to the National Assembly, which oversaw his tenure, and the President, who selected him, through his Senior Special Adviser on Media, Hector Igbikiwebu.
However, he called their decision “commentary” and said that any investigation into the previous administrator would be pointless.
