The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has chastised Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) 2023 presidential candidate, for criticizing the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
During a Tuesday night interview on Arise TV, Peter Obi asserted that Nigeria lacks democracy and emphasized that he would have performed better in his role as president.
In response, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka said in a statement on Wednesday night that Tinubu’s accomplishments as president and governor of Lagos State are indisputable, but that opposition confirmation is required.

Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State, has to control his inflated and naive imagination, according to the APC.

Morka claims that Obi has not woken up to the fact that he is not the president and is exhibiting signs of a long-lasting hangover brought on by the election setback.
Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State and the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, strolled down his well-traveled tunnel during an interview on Prime Time on Arise Television on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, and accused President Bola Tinubu of performing poorly in enacting economic policy reform, saying he would have performed better.

In light of the administration’s economic policies’ clear and indisputable track record of progress, it was sad to watch Mr. Obi struggle in vain to put together any logical critical economic argument. Even Mr. Obi’s usual opportunistic sensationalization of the fleeting hardships that Nigerians have faced in patriotic support of the President’s ambitious and revolutionary economic plan did not help him as he stumbled on national television, portraying himself as a symbol of political desperation and frustration.

Mr. Obi’s favorite response, “I would have done better as president,” must be a sign of a long-lasting hangover from an unsuccessful election, from which he has failed to accept that he is not the president. Similar to an unlicensed backseat driver who believes he is a racing car driver, Mr. Obi needs to control his inflated and distorted imagination.

The goal of opposition politics is not to downplay the administration’s numerous accomplishments. It involves pointing out what might be incorrect while reaffirming what is correct. Mass denunciation that serves simply to deceive and achieve short-term political advantages is not the point. All Nigerians can notice the unquestionable and consistent advancements made by the Tinubu administration in all sectors.

It is absurd that Mr. Obi, who oversaw a forgotten and unsuccessful administration in Anambra state, which had just 21 local government units, would so blatantly claim to be able to lead Africa’s biggest democracy. A vile legacy of ecological catastrophe, religious division, infrastructure deterioration, and economic stagnation was left behind by Obi.

Tinubu is a tenacious achiever who is fearless and unflinching in taking on and turning impossible obstacles into possibilities, both as president and as the former governor of Lagos state. President Tinubu is doing the same for Nigeria as he did for Lagos, with the country’s economy recovering steadily, posting productivity-enhanced trade surpluses in consecutive quarters, economic growth of 3.6 percent predicted for the current fiscal year, a rapidly growing foreign reserve, redesigned and operational local refineries, declining food inflation, a successful harmonization of multiple exchange rates that now supports increased foreign direct investments and remittances into the economy, and a reasonably stable foreign exchange market.

“The administration has also reported in its success column that it has cleared a $7 billion foreign exchange backlog and that Ways and Means debt has decreased from 98 percent to roughly 64 percent; that oil production has increased to over 1.8 million barrels per day, surpassing the 1.5 million barrels per day quota set by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) for the first time in many years; that the stock exchange market has been repositioned and is now among the most profitable in the world; that the agricultural, mine and steel, manufacturing, creative, and several other economic sub-sectors have expanded significantly, in an effort to increase the non-oil sector’s contribution to GDP; and that Chatham House has recently declared the country’s economy to be the most competitive it has been in 25 years.

While experts and international organizations are praising President Tinubu’s skillful leadership of the silent economic revolution that is taking place, Obi and his fellow opposition drummers of empty party barrels are still denying President Tinubu’s extraordinary and unmatched near- to mid-term triumphs and accomplishments.

“President Tinubu is still committed to ensuring that all Nigerians have better economic conditions and good governance.”
