During an operation in Usmanu Village, Karim-Lamido Local Government Area, Taraba State, soldiers from the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade neutralized four suspected militia members and found a cache of weapons.

The operation came after a long-running land dispute between the Shomo and Wurkun groups was allegedly connected to fresh communal conflicts.
Lt. Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, said in a statement on Sunday that the forces were sent in on reliable information that there was a revival of hostilities in the region.

When the army arrived, armed attackers from the Fadama axis attacked them. Four militia members were killed in a brief gunfight that followed, according to the statement.

Three Dane guns, a fake AK-47 rifle, 25 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and two motorcycles were found during a subsequent sweep of the area.

The army also verified the arrest of a current police officer who was allegedly discovered working with the armed organization, which was a significant step. According to reports, an investigation is being conducted to ascertain the officer’s role in the altercations.

Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commander of 6 Brigade and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, commended the soldiers for their prompt and expert response.

He reiterated the Brigade’s dedication to maintaining pressure on criminal elements and bringing peace back to Taraba State.

Residents of Karim-Lamido and nearby areas were requested by General Uwa to maintain composure, assist security forces, and supply reliable information to support ongoing operations. He further stated that until complete stability is restored, security operations under Operations Peace Shield, Lafiya Nakowa, and Zafin Wuta will continue.
