A total of 120 staff members from the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), including management team members, departmental heads, managers, and union leaders, were recognized and presented with commendation letters for their outstanding service delivery in 2024.
The event, hosted by the management of the institution, was an end-of-year celebration to honor and appreciate the exemplary contributions of staff members throughout the year.
Held on Friday, January 3, 2025, the occasion reflected the hospital administration’s dedication to staff welfare and acknowledged individuals who demonstrated remarkable commitment to their roles, thereby enhancing effective and efficient healthcare service delivery to clients.
During the event, the Chief Medical Director, Professor Yusuf Bara Jibrin, shared notable accomplishments achieved by the hospital in 2024.

Highlights included the successful implementation of e-health software, marking a significant advancement in healthcare service delivery; the establishment of a responsive ambulance service for emergencies; the introduction of home-based geriatric care for elderly patients; and the provision of free cesarean surgeries aimed at reducing maternal and child mortality.
The CMD added that the hospital also made strides in infrastructure development, with ongoing expansions at the ATBU Gubi Campus, and secured a capacity-building grant from the Medical Research Council of Gambia at the London School of Hygiene for Vaccine Clinical Trials, a major achievement in medical research.
Yusuf Bara Jibrin called upon the hospital community to reaffirm its commitment to the philosophy that “ATBUTH’s journey is forward, not backward.”
He emphasized that this vision requires collective effort, support, and a united belief in progress, stating, “Let no one say it cannot be done; rather, let us demonstrate that together, we can and will achieve our goals.”
The CMD also outlined several challenges confronting the hospital, including constraints in human and capital resources, energy and water shortages, and resistance to digital transformation.
Nonetheless, he noted that management is actively exploring solutions such as renewable energy sources, accelerating infrastructure projects, and expanding community outreach initiatives, as stated by Usman Abdullahi Koli, Head of the Public Relations Unit, ATBUTH Bauchi.
