According to Dr. Adetokunbo Pearse, a prominent figure in Lagos State’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is expected to carry the African Democratic Congress (ADC) flag in the 2027 presidential election.
Regarding the latest wave of PDP defections, including Atiku, Pearse told reporters that the action poses no threat to the PDP.
The previous PDP presidential candidate, he claimed, had harmed his own political reputation.
Atiku will undoubtedly win the ADC primary and secure the presidential ticket, but Pearse conceded that he “cannot win the presidential election on that platform.”
“The judgment of the former vice president is consistently incorrect. Speaking to reporters in Lagos recently, the PDP leader said, “What he is doing now is messing up his political credentials.”
He said that a large number of ADC defectors would quickly realize their error and rejoin the PDP.
The NEC Meeting
Regarding the PDP’s internal developments, Pearse stated that all uncertainties regarding the party’s unity and strength have been dispelled by the recently concluded National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja.

Former Atiku Abubakar 2023 Presidential Campaign Committee member and Reset Lagos PDP group convener Pearse claimed the NEC meeting’s success marks a significant turning point for the PDP.
“The PDP is in perfect condition. Unlike many other political parties, the PDP does not face these issues. He confirmed that the PDP had a solid foundation.
According to Pearse, “just like in a marriage, there can be some issues that must be resolved,” comparing the party’s internal conflicts to marital misunderstandings. “Everything indicates that PDP is doing well, and we have held our NEC meeting. We are Democrats, and unlike the other party, we elect our leaders rather than appointing them. Zoning the South Presidency was a brilliant move.
Pearse referred to the party’s decision to have its 2027 presidential ticket zoned to the South as “a game changer.”
The All Progressives Congress (APC) incumbent President Bola Tinubu can only be defeated in this manner, Pearse said.
According to reports, the PDP voted to conduct its national elective convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16, after concluding its 101st NEC meeting in Abuja on Thursday.
Key internal reforms were reportedly discussed at the meeting, which was attended by party stakeholders. It also established a strategic framework for the general elections in 2027.
With defections, internal power struggles, and the pursuit of a winning alliance in the upcoming election cycle, Pearse’s remarks come as the PDP looks to reestablish itself as a viable rival to the ruling APC.
