Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s media aide Paul Ibe has denounced the ongoing detention of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Ibe said through his 𝕏 account that Atiku had advocated for the agitator’s release on repeat.
Other people who were also arrested, including Sunday Igboho, Omoyele Sowore, and former National Security Advisor Sambo Dasuki, have also been released, he noted.
Ibe asked Kanu what offense he had committed that would justify his ongoing incarceration.
He wrote: “Atiku Abubakar has consistently addressed the issue of Nnamdi Kanu.” In 2024, he suggested a political solution, and in 2023, he demanded Kanu’s release.
As a result, he has now supported the Sowore’s #MarchforKanu. This action is patriotic.
“Let’s presume that Kanu has a case to answer, but don’t accept that. Does the ongoing fake trial imply that a sincere and equitable attempt is being made to proceed with a trial that will deliver real justice as soon as possible?
“Incidentally, what crimes did Kanu commit that others did? Other people who were arrested at the same time as Nnamdi Kanu, Sabo Dasuki, Sunday Igboho, and Yele Sowore, were released on bond, however.
What makes Kanu’s case unique? He is from the opposite side of our geographic area, and perhaps that is why his name is Nnamdi Kanu.
The militants from Boko Haram have been granted amnesty in the interim. Isn’t that unfair to some? Because of this, the only viable solution to the Nnamdi Kanu problem is a political one.
