Phrank Shaibu, a spokesman for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has pushed back against comments made by Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo, who said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is still ahead of his opposition rivals as the 2027 elections get closer.

Keyamo wrote on his verified X account on Sunday that Tinubu’s political journey was impressive. He said that Tinubu went from being a member of the opposition to becoming Nigeria’s president.

Shaibu, who goes by the name @phrankangel on Twitter, responded by saying that past political successes can’t take the place of good government.

He said that how well someone does in office, not their political history, should be the real measure of leadership.

Shaibu said that claims that Tinubu is politically “invincible” are based on a weak story. He also said that Nigerians are more worried about the economy getting worse and security than about past political victories. He says that people are dealing with rising hunger, a high cost of living, and ongoing safety problems.

He also said that being “ahead” politically should mean better living conditions, not just strategic talk.

He said that instead, current events show that the government is having a hard time dealing with important national issues.

In a follow-up post, Shaibu stepped up his criticism, saying that political strategy isn’t worth much if it doesn’t improve people’s lives, keep them safe, or restore their dignity. He came to the conclusion that no amount of messaging can hide the fact that many people are still having a hard time.

“Today, Nigerians are not impressed by recycled opposition tactics that are dressed up as brilliance. They face empty pockets, unsafe neighborhoods, and a government that seems to be out of touch with their pain every day.”

He said, “No amount of propaganda can hide a reality that is this loud.”
