Dachung Bagos, a former federal senator, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to demonstrate its impartiality by punishing President Bola Tinubu and his followers for putting up “Vote Tinubu 2027” billboards far in advance of the start of the official campaign season.
Speaking on AIT Focus on Thursday, he disclosed this.
Section 94 of the Electoral Act, 2022, which prohibits campaign messages that specifically seek votes outside of the authorized window, is obviously violated by the advertisements, according to the former member for the Jos South/Jos East Federal Constituency.
“Any early discussions in campaign posters that talk about ‘vote for’ are the only things that the law talks about: the word ‘vote for’ is prohibited by law,” Bagos stated.
“That is the reason why someone placed the president’s banner and poster in Abuja today without including the words “vote for.” Since they simply included their 2027, it is up to you to decipher what that year is all about.

He pointed out that one of the billboards showed the president and his spouse along with the phrase “Vote Tinubu 2027,” which he claimed was illegal.
It is illegal to use the word “vote” in Section 94. He remarked, “INEC is supposed to have sanctioned this person, whether it be the candidate or the party that puts that.”
The president should be cautioned and sanctioned by INEC if the vote is only based on the president and there is no party logo.
Ahead of the 2027 elections, Bagos urged the electoral body to take decisive action, stating that if it doesn’t, INEC may come off as prejudiced.
