Daniel Bameyi, captain of the Flying Eagles, has been named to the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations Team of the Tournament for 2025.
Daniel Bameyi, 19, demonstrated his abilities in all six of the Flying Eagles’ matches in Egypt, scoring a critical goal to help the club advance.
The tournament saw champions South Africa and runners-up Morocco make a big impression, with each team having four players named to the Tournament Team.

In addition to Bameyi, Sierra Leone’s Momoh Kamara, who led the competition in scoring with four goals, and Egypt’s Mohamed Goweily were recognized for their great performances.

Raymond Mdaka of South Africa received the tournament’s coaching award.

Daniel Bameyi was also named to the Team of the 2025 U-20 AFCON Group Stage.

Meanwhile, Flying Eagles offensive midfielder Mathew Kingsley shared his elation after assisting the squad to a bronze medal by defeating hosts Egypt in a thrilling third-place match.

The match, played in Cairo’s 30 June Air Defence Stadium, ended in a nail-biting penalty shootout after a 1-1 tie in regular.

The Flying Eagles won 4-1 on penalties, securing a podium finish.

Kingsley expressed his feelings following the match, saying, “The satisfaction of earning a medal with the national team is overwhelming. I’m relieved that we won’t be returning empty-handed.

While recognizing that the team aspired for a higher result, he stressed the importance of qualifying for the 2019 World Cup.

“Unfortunately, this is not what we expected, but more importantly, we have qualified for the World Cup.” We will work hard to build on this success as we prepare for the World Cup,” he stated.
