The reported intention by the party’s national leadership to accept Governor Bala Mohammed has been challenged by an All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus in Bauchi State, which warned that such a move may jeopardize the party’s unity and electoral prospects.
The group said that the governor’s previous critiques of President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s policies had sowed discord and animosity.
Sama’ila Dahuwa, a senator from Bauchi North and the caucus chairman, stated on Tuesday night following a meeting in Abuja that the group had unanimously rejected Mohammed’s proposed admittance to the APC.
“After thorough discussions, the caucus categorically opposes the move,” he declared.
The caucus voiced worry over Mohammed’s persistent public criticism of President Tinubu and the APC, including remarks that were seen to compromise the integrity and unity of the party.
As of right now, he hasn’t taken back his remarks or made any official attempts to make amends with the party’s leadership and members. To our knowledge, he has not publicly apologized.
The group declared, “Given the aforementioned, the caucus is adamant that his admission into the APC at this time will be detrimental to the party’s cohesion, credibility, and electoral prospects in Bauchi State.”
The caucus additionally stated that it would not back any action that could jeopardize the stability and prosperity of the party.
Additionally, it criticized the Bauchi APC for allegedly failing to contact important stakeholders on the issue, claiming that this was incompatible with internal democracy and inclusivity.
The caucus stated that it would formally inform the party’s national leadership of its stance and insist on strict respect to established procedures and due process.
Before stepping down to run on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) banner in the 2023 election, Senator Dahuwa, who represents Bauchi North, was Governor Bala Mohammed’s Commissioner for Health.
Due to internal PDP problems, he later moved to the APC at the beginning of the year.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have reportedly courted Governor Bala Mohammed to join them ahead of his impending departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
