Shamsudeen, the son of Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, has said that his father will not back former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s presidential ambitions.
In a message posted on his X account (previously Twitter), @shamsudeen_bala, he responded to a user who expressed hope for a possible collaboration between Atiku and Governor Mohammed to revitalize the Peoples Democratic Party.
According to Shamsudeen, Atiku had earlier sabotaged his father’s re-election campaign in 2023 by sponsoring the opposition and uniting influential personalities in Bauchi against him.
“Honestly, it would be difficult,” he wrote.
“Because even if he wins, all he’d do for us is settle old scores. In 2023, he endorsed the APC candidate and utilized Bauchi elites against us. We almost made it. He’s made it apparent that he doesn’t respect us enough to engage in discourse.”
His remarks underscore persistent divisions within the PDP ahead of the next election cycle.

Meanwhile, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has led the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to former President Muhammadu Buhari’s house in Kaduna State.
According to reports, this visit comes after opposition leaders met with the former President recently.
Recall that former Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, as well as renowned politicians like El-Rufa’i, earlier met with Buhari in his Kaduna State residence.
Political observers believe that the opposition’s visit is part of a larger plot to portray a united front against the current administration in the approaching 2027 federal elections.
Notably, just days before the opposition leaders’ visit, Buhari hosted APC-affiliated governors for negotiations.
Earlier this month, the former President reiterated his commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
