The University of Africa, Toru-Orua, has staged a historic combined convocation event to honor graduates from the 2020-2024 academic years. The ceremony brought together government officials, royal dignitaries, academic leaders, and proud families to reaffirm the institution’s dedication to excellence in education, research, and services.
Speaking at the occasion, Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri praised the graduates’ determination and their decision to study at a relatively young college. He underlined his administration’s commitment to the university’s growth, emphasizing the need for new finance sources beyond state contributions.
“The University of Africa has the potential to chart new paths in innovation and secure alternative, sustainable funding sources beyond what the Bayelsa State Government can provide,” Diri, the governor, said.
“As a token of appreciation for your accomplishments, the best graduating student in each program will obtain automatic employment. Your decision to trust a new institution over a well-established one speaks volumes. Today, you are ambassadors for this ambitious university, and I am dedicated to establishing it as a center for knowledge, progress, and excellence.”
A first-class graduate spoke on behalf of the graduating class, expressing excitement and thanks. The student emphasized the courage required to choose a university and the group pride in reaching this milestone.
“We took a risk, believing in ourselves and the university’s future. Today, we are overjoyed as we celebrate our win together. The university is aiming to build a name for itself outside of Bayelsa, according to the student.

The newly inaugurated Chancellor, His Eminence Ez Wanuku Namobi III, King of Aubberland, also attended the convocation and officially inducted 95 graduating students into the university’s alumni community. In his function, the chancellor conferred certificates and charged the graduates with upholding the institution’s principles as they embarked on the next stage of their journey.
