Bayelsa: Woman collected N14,000 to vote against me after giving her son scholarship – LP Governorship candidate.

The Labour Party governorship candidate in the Saturday’s election in Bayelsa State, Mr Udengs Eradiri, has decried the issue of vote buying during the election in the state which he said was very rampant in many polling units during the election.
He particularly mentioned the case of a woman in his community whose son he gave scholarship to but who allegedly collected the sum of N14,000 from his opponent and went ahead to vote against him in his polling unit.
The off-circle elections in three states of Bayelsa, Kogi and Imo took place on Saturday.
However, speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), an online news outfit of the Federal Government, about the malpractices that he said marred the election, Eradiri said he was shocked when the woman collected money and went ahead to vote against him at the polling unit.
According to him: “My greatest disappointment was with a woman from this community whom I offered scholarship to her son, but today, she sold her vote for N14,000.
“I had thought my messages against money politics would have been understood by the people, but I was wrong. I am deeply disappointed, I was wrong. We have a long way to go in stopping money politics in this country.
“I thought I had found a solution but I was wrong. I did not come into this race to buy votes, but to win the governorship election.”

According to him, votes were freely traded for between N12,000 and N40,000 per vote, adding that the level of vote buying is overwhelming.
