When she was growing up, Assistant Inspector General Aishatu Abubakar-Baju, the most senior female police officer in Nigeria, admitted that she never thought she would work in the police force.
She claims that she used to be terrified of the police when she was younger.
But after completing her year-long National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) with the Nigerian Police in 1995, AIG Abubakar-Baju told Channels TV that everything changed.
She reportedly revealed that she fell in love with the Police Force and joined them during her year of duty.

“I have no regrets whatsoever about taking that step to become a police officer,” Abubakar-Baju continued.
I had no intention of becoming a police officer. It’s not something I’ve ever considered for myself as a career. However, you should be aware that occasionally destiny also leads you to the place that God has planned for you. As a child, I would often tell people that I was once terrified of the cops.
When I was a child, my grandmother would say, “I’ll call the police for you,” and I would hide under the bed if I got into trouble at home. I became a police officer, which was a huge shock and surprise to my family. After completing my NYSC, I had the opportunity to observe what it’s like to be a police officer in Nigeria through my interactions with the officers and their families. I genuinely fell in love with the position. I’m glad I became a police officer in the end. “I keep saying that if I ever return to this world, I want to be a police officer because it’s fulfilling,” she remarked.
