Simon Agbo, an official with the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), was reportedly kidnapped by gunmen in Makurdi, Benue State.
According to family sources, Agbo was outside his house with two neighbors on Sunday at approximately 7:5 p.m. when the incident happened.
A number of shots were fired into the air to frighten away people before the gunmen took the officer at gunpoint after storming the area behind Modern Market and across from NKST Church in Kuan.
The kidnappers took the victim, who had just been redeployed from Kwara State to the Benue State Command in February, and took him away to an unidentified location.
The community’s teenagers and vigilante organizations conducted a thorough search to ensure his release, but his kidnappers managed to get away.
One of the neighbors, according to Agbo’s younger brother, had repeatedly asked the police to go back home that night, which raised suspicions.

“He kept calling, demanding that my brother share his location or come home.” The assailants exclusively targeted my brother while they were outside conversing,” he stated.
After being detained, the neighbor is currently being held by the police while they do additional investigation.
After reaching out to the family, his kidnappers are requesting N20 million in ransom.
At the time of posting this story, attempts to verify the occurrence with NIS personnel and CSP Catherine Anene, the spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, were unsuccessful.
