According to reports, a second-year student majoring in Chemical Engineering at the Federal University, Otuoke, in Bayelsa State’s Ogbia Local Government Area, drowned in Yenagoa’s Ikoli Creek River.
According to reports, the student lost his life on Sunday after placing a wager with other people that he could swim across the Ikoli River.
After local divers removed the student’s body from the water, newsmen were able to confirm the tragic incident, even if the student’s name may still be unknown.
The person was trying to swim across the river when he went under the water and did not come up, locals told Daily Trust. Along with his classmates, a 200-level Chemical Engineering student wagered on swimming across the river on Sunday morning.
For the stake, each of them raised N300. He was swimming when he dipped, and his body wasn’t discovered until Monday night, according to a source.

On Tuesday, Mercy Ekott, the university’s public relations officer, told reporters that the unfortunate incident had occurred.
She was unable to provide more details on it, though, because she lacked the authority to do so.
She stated: “Yes, it is true, but I am not authorized to speak on the subject, so I am unable to provide further details.”
However, Bayelsa State Police Spokesman DSP Musa Muhammad informed reporters that the command had not yet received any information regarding the event, but he promised to get in touch with the Divisional Police Officer in Ogbia to get further information and get back to them.
