One of the most tragic mistakes you can make in your life is to hook up with a senseless woman. No matter how decent you fancy yourself to be, such a woman will strip you naked before the world and make your life a corner of hell. Look around you, and you will see irredeemably uncouth, trash-talking young women who would have been better off as stillbirths. They are loud and crass, mistaking noise for logic. They are so ill-mannered, yet wonder why they don’t have a marital home. Who wants to live with a clothed lunatic? You hook up with them at your own peril. Hear the Greek poet, Hesiod: “Do not let a flattering woman coax and wheedle you and deceive you; she is after your barn.”
It’s even more tragic when these despicable breeds are old: the spirit that rules them can’t be tamed. Here’s Betty Akeredolu, wife of the late Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), addressing the Ondo State governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, in an accustomed rant this week: “Lucky can’t be serious! Which legacy? Mtcheew. Lecture, my foot! This is not for Aketi because I and my family are not aware. Damn it! …This is an insidious propaganda carried too far! Lucky, you are preoccupied with rubbishing Aketi’s legacy; you can’t succeed, anyway. Anybody close to Aketi and Arabinrin becomes your enemy. Your minions are scared to get close otherwise they lose their appointments. Now you want to pretend by organising one yeye lecture for Aketi’s memorial as an entry point to chop money on Aketi’s head. You are on your own o! If this is not #yahoo #419 lecture, tell me what it is!”
The Yoruba say that if Akarigbo is no bigger than a fist, he is still the owner of Remo. It is a tragedy that this woman has no respect for the office and person of the Governor of Ondo State. She says, “Lucky can’t be serious!,” proving that she hasn’t the slightest regard for her husband, because no woman who respects her husband would treat other women’s husbands like trash. Betty may be older than Aiyedatiwa but he is someone’s husband, and she isn’t better than his wife in any way. Just how can this woman refer to the Governor of Ondo State in that utterly discourteous tone? Is it that she has no atom of decency? Who does she think that she is? Imagine that this woman was Nigeria’s First Lady; she would have destroyed the office with her crass behavior. It seems that, finally, Portable has a mum. This woman is saying that Ondo State can’t honour the memory of their departed governor unless she says so. Apparently, she can’t differentiate between Akeredolu as her husband and Akeredolu as Governor of Ondo State. Even a child should have better reasoning capacity than this.
Betty, the queen of controversy rejected by her own people during her Senate bid, will be found continually ranting on social media, denouncing her in-laws, condemning critics and dragging public office through the mud. I am not from Ondo State, but I am outraged by the brazen desecration of Ondo symbols and the gross disrespect to its people by this extremely crude woman who addresses an elected governor like her houseboy. An aide of the late Akeredolu was quoted as saying that “on his wife’s management, Aketi was a weakling.” Such a marital mismatch troubled the US singer Elvis Presley: “A hard-headed woman, a soft-hearted man, been the cause of trouble ever since the world began.”
Here’s Betty Akeredolu chastising a social media influencer identified as Pastor Okezie: “If you are truly Okezie and not ronu moniker, you must be one of those prosperity pastors that drink tea with god. For your information which you’re getting for free, if you are not ronu aborigine, you can never be accepted. Quote me!…You can try sha and collect some crumbs under the table of managers of ronu republic.” You would think that a First Lady in Ondo State wouldn’t disparage her husband’s people, but here was Her Excellency denouncing Ronu Republic.
Sadly, the bad behavior may be already affecting the children. On December 28, 2023, the Vanguard reported “a dramatic scene” at the Ibadan residence of the late Ondo governor. It said: “The presence of journalists generated a negative reaction from one of the daughters of the deceased, who ordered all the journalists to leave the residence, on the ground that it was a private residence and not a Government House.” It took the intervention of Governors Seyi Makinde and AbdulaRahman Abdulrazak to calm “frayed nerves.”
If not for professional reasons, what would any journalist be doing in such a noxious environment? Which journalist is around the house now?? If you think I’m being too harsh here, then read what Mrs Akeredolu wrote of her sister-in-law: “Behold the face of Aketi’s niece, Funke Akeredolu Aruna, the former deputy chief protocol to Aketi, shamelessly parades as “I’M LUCKY “. Bloody serpent! Time will tell if she is truly lucky!”
By Her Excellency’s convoluted reasoning, a relative of Akeredolu could not validly support Aiyedatiwa’s governorship bid. In other words, the Akeredolus were supposed to be zombie’s tied to her political apron string. Needless to say, Her Excellency’s prophecy that time would tell if her sister-in-law would be truly lucky has blown up in her face: Lucky Aiyedatiwa is governor despite the campaign of calumny against him. E gbeje f’ori.
Betty Akeredolu has treated Ondo State with gross disrespect. The Ondo State Government would be doing itself great disservice by inviting her to any event henceforth. She should be confined to the gutter of inattention where she belongs. Salute to the gracious, decent women who have inhabited the Ondo Government House without desecrating it.

As usual, you remain dispassionate/pungent in your analysis. What a balanced report. You lay the blame squarely where it belongs. 1. The negligence and “karimi (show off) of the organizers of the fun fair. 2. The long throat of our people and careless parents. 3. The signs of the time..reign of poverty because of bad governance. 4. The pervasive hunger in our country. 5. The crass indiscipline and incorrigibility of our people. 6. My addition: there is a lack of punishment/consequences for bad behaviour. As I write this, two similar incidents happened the same day in Abuja and Okija, Anambra state, three days after the Ibadan, Oyo State horrible incident. The Abuja and Anambra incidents claimed 22 lives as reported in the Sunday NaomisophyBlog (22/12/2024). Is Nigeria under a spell? O su mi oo. I’m fatigued. Indeed, THERE WAS A COUNTRY( apologies to Chinua Achebe). Nigeria is the only country in the world whose best time and governance happened in the past. Today’s Nigeria “get as e bi” as they say in local parlance.
