The Ifon and Ilobu villages’ intercommunal conflicts intensified on Saturday, extending to the Erin Osun community.
In response, the impacted communities are under a 24-hour curfew enforced by Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Many people of Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun were forced to leave their homes after the violence, which prompted the governor to impose a 12-hour curfew. In Okinni, displaced people were spotted on the streets on Saturday. Some of them, especially those from the north, were fleeing the region in busses.
According to reports, Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke’s spokeswoman, described the steps taken to stop the situation from getting worse in a statement.
Through the implementation of a 24-hour curfew, the creation of a joint security task force, and the hosting of a peace agreement between the two warring villages, Governor Ademola Adeleke has intensified conflict de-escalation efforts on the Ifon-Ilobu dispute, according to the statement.

Assuring the residents of Ilobu and Ifon, Governor Adeleke declared, “I am dedicated to protecting their lives and property.” The state president has been informed of the developments by me. We are in control of the matter.
Along with addressing the dissemination of misleading information, the statement pointed out that opposition elements were spreading outdated footage of previous intercommunal clashes in several areas of Osun State in order to fabricate an image of pervasive insecurity.
“We urge the public to be aware of the actions of fake news merchants who are pulling old videos to disparage the state government, even though the ongoing conflict is unfortunate and everyone is working to put an end to the violence,” the statement continued.
The governor stressed that people should ignore the films that are going viral depicting violence in other Osun towns and villages because they are fake news.
