Numerous travelers have been abducted along the Ibbi-Bussa stretch of the Mokwa-New Bussa road in Niger State by suspected bandit terrorists who are allegedly escaping Kwara State.
Alhaji Bawa Niworo, a former chairman of the State Universal Education Board (NSUBEB), and Ahmed Mohammed, Commissioner 7 of the Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC), were among those kidnapped, according to Leadership.

Late on Monday, numerous vehicles halted in a woodland near Ibbi in the Mashegu local government area of the state, and other passengers were taken.

Wasiu Abiodun, the Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the State Police Command, confirmed the occurrence to the aforementioned publication, revealing that the gunmen had been engaged by security personnel.

According to him, “the Police tactical team engaged and repelled the hoodlums after suspected armed men attacked the Police nipping point along Ibbi-Bussa road. In the process, the Police patrol vehicle was damaged by gunshots, and one of the Policemen was injured by a gunshot and taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.”

“Sadly, the armed men who were running away later blocked the road in front of the police nipping point and kidnapped some of the passengers from roughly three vehicles along the way.”

According to Abiodun, in an effort to rescue the kidnapped victims and potentially apprehend the criminals, the Police Command has organized additional tactical teams alongside other security agencies and vigilante elements to pursue the alleged kidnappers.

According to him, the Police Command’s Special Task Team (STT) conducted a clearance operation within Kokolo forest via Kawo-Auna village in the Magama local government area. This was in continuation of the Command’s clearance operations in some suspected kidnapers’ hideouts, and it was based on intelligence received.

“The team stormed the forest during this operation, came across the thugs, and engaged them in a gun battle,” he claimed. Thankfully, one victim was saved, three of the alleged kidnappers were neutralized, and others fled into the forest wounded by gunshots.
