The case file for the fundamental human rights enforcement lawsuit that former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai filed has been sent by Justice Belgore to the Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory for reassignment.
The news reportedly comes after the judge decided to go on leave.
In order to consider El-Rufai’s bail request, the court postponed proceedings until Friday on Wednesday, February 25.
The case file was sent to the FCT Chief Judge for reassignment to another judge after Justice Belgore revealed during Friday’s session that he would be heading on leave.
In order to protect El-Rufai’s fundamental human rights, the lawsuit was filed against the Attorney-General of the Federation, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC).
Since he voluntarily reported to the EFCC on Monday, February 16, 2026, El-Rufai has been detained, according to a statement released on February 27 by his media adviser, Muyiwa Adekeye.
Later, on the evening of February 18, he was transferred to the custody of the ICPC, the statement continued.
A new date for the hearing of the bail application is anticipated to be set after the case is reassigned to a different judge.
While El-Rufai is still being held by anti-graft agencies, his legal team is working to have his rights upheld.
