Mojisola Meranda, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has criticized her predecessor Mudashiru Obasa for his behavior when he invaded the Assembly premises on Thursday and insisted he was still the rightful Speaker.
At the Lagos State High Court, where Obasa had filed an application contesting his dismissal as Speaker, Meranda reportedly spoke to reporters on Friday.
“Well, good morning,” she said in response to a question concerning the lawsuits brought against her and other MPs. As with what transpired there, this is only the beginning, and both parties do have representatives. I believe that we should let the legal team do their work.

“My office was broken into by Obasa.”
Speaking on Obasa’s return to the Assembly building, Meranda said that although Obasa had the right to enter the House as a sitting lawmaker, it was inappropriate that he had forced his way into her office.

“He has every right to come, as I believe he is still a member of the House of Assembly,” she continued, “but the invasion and breaking into my office is really a big one.”

Meranda reassured that she was not worried about personal security in response to the removal of her security aides on Thursday.

“Well, as you can see, God is with me and I have my people here,” she remarked.

She revealed that she had lost a great deal of protection when asked about the state of her official security detail.

In contrast to my typical convoy, which comprises of 12 police officers, four DSS agents, and two anti-B personnel, she stated, “I think I have three or four policemen.” That is not something I have as of this morning.

Meranda responded to Obasa’s assertion that a plenary session would be held on Thursday by calling it a mockery of the legislative process.

We have numbers that make up a quorum at work, therefore I believe that was merely a display of embarrassment.

“Therefore, you are only doing theater if you are sitting with three or four people,” she said.
