Restored Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly Mudashiru Obasa has apologized to the Nigerian Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS) for the attack on their officers at the Assembly on February 17.
On Thursday, February 27, Obasa signed a statement in which he said the attack on the agents was extremely unfortunate.
A portion of the statement said: “I hereby apologize on behalf of the Lagos State House of Assembly to the security agencies for the embarrassment caused them, particularly the assault on DSS security operatives as widely circulated in videos.”
“We appreciate your efforts and the work you perform. To defend people and property in the assembly and Lagos state, we turn to you in times of need. The assembly obviously asked for your presence and extra assistance on this specific day.

“In the past, we have always done this. That DSS security personnel have to be attacked in the sacred spaces of our State Assembly is unfortunate. The Assembly as a whole extends its sincere apologies.
Our relationship with the Lagos Assembly and security personnel has always been friendly and respectful, and we have always called on you to uphold law and order. Over the years, we have developed a positive friendship, which we hope won’t be harmed by this occurrence.
“We appeal on behalf of those who have been charged in court and hope that this matter can be resolved amicably to strengthen our ongoing partnership for the peace of our beloved state and the world at large.”
In addition to apologizing, Obasa said earlier today that he had returned to the Assembly building and was once again serving as Speaker.
Three Assembly employees who were accused of assaulting DSS agents have been released on bail.
