A Nigerian soldier is accused of killing a teenage phone repair technician in Mayo-Belwa, Adamawa State, because the service was delayed. This unfortunate event has caused popular indignation.
The technician, Alkasum Ibrahim, was allegedly attacked and killed by the soldier, Lance Corporal Ahmada A., according to witnesses, because his girlfriend complained that her phone had not been mended promptly. It was said to have happened on Wednesday.
Earlier, the soldier’s girlfriend had brought her malfunctioning phone to Alkasum’s shop so that it could be fixed. But for reasons that were thought to be technical or workload-related, the repair was postponed. According to reports, she called her partner, upset by the delay.
In a startling development, Lance Corporal Ahmada is accused of breaking into the repair business and attacking the technician with violence. Witnesses claim that he brutally beat Alkasum in front of onlookers. The victim passed away from his wounds after losing consciousness.

“This is heartbreaking,” Nuruddeen Abubakar, an eyewitness, said. All the boy was attempting to do was earn a living. He just broke the law by failing to fix a phone on time.
The soldier is still at large after reportedly escaping the scene. Residents of the area and human rights organizations have condemned the occurrence and are calling for justice and responsibility.
“This goes beyond violence—it is murder,” a local rights group declared in a statement. “The suspect must be turned over for prosecution immediately by the Nigerian military.”
Speaking on the incident, Adamawa State Police Command spokesperson SP Suleiman Nguroje said the military is investigating internally and will likely turn the issue over to the police for additional action.
Insisting that the issue not be ignored, the deceased’s family is demanding immediate justice with the help of rights advocates.
