Fourteen people, including women and infants, were killed on Thursday, July 24, 2025, when gunmen posing as Fulani bandits ambushed a car returning from Plateau State’s well-known Bokkos market.
On their way home from the weekly market after conducting their business, the victims were ambushed and slain along Chirang Road in the Mangor District of the LGA, according to witnesses who described the occurrence.
According to one of the witnesses, who wished to remain anonymous, the heavily armed men stopped the road as the car came up and fired intermittently, killing the victims and wounding numerous more.
Farmasum Fuddang, the chairman of the Bokkos Cultural Development Forum (BCDF), confirmed the incident in a statement released on Friday. He said it was horrifying that some bandits would continue to kill innocent people in spite of numerous peace and reconciliation meetings and attempts to mediate a settlement between the council’s farming and herding communities.

When their car was attacked, the victims were on their way back from Bokkos town’s weekly market. Among the victims were mothers and infants, Fuddang stated in the statement.
“This violence persists in spite of numerous purported attempts at peace and reconciliation,” the chairman stated.
The Fulani militants were clearly responsible for the attack, according to Fuddang, who did not hold back in his accusations. He insisted that their objective was to seize control of the entire local government area, which is known as Nigeria’s potato headquarters.
