Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory’s Minister, has stated that he will not meddle in the operations of the Rivers State House of Assembly, stating that legislators must be free to carry out their constitutional responsibilities without interference.
Speaking at a Thanksgiving/Civic Reception in Abalama, Asari-Toru Local Government Area, on Saturday, Wike blasted Governor Siminalayi Fubara for allegedly failing to adequately manage Rivers State’s ongoing political turmoil.
In honor of the former governor of Rivers, certain Ijaw stakeholders organized the event under the auspices of New Associates Kalabari.
According to reports, Wike claimed that Fubara had disregarded his counsel and had instead sided with “natural ingrates.”
“I informed the governor that you are not prepared to handle this issue with all of these things you are witnessing. However, they informed him, “You have money, you are the governor.” I concur. However, wealth is not everything. None of these individuals have anything to contribute. Look where we are right now. “How far?” he asked.
The former governor of Rivers said that Fubara first chose not to participate in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary, preferring his then-Commissioner for Finance, Isaac Kamalu, to be the party’s nominee.
He said that telling Fubara to look after people who assisted him in becoming governor was his single “sin.”
“What went wrong for us? We claimed that every council chairman was harmed. Every Assemblyman was harmed. Members of the National Assembly suffered in order for you to be elected governor. Thus, don’t leave them behind. “I only committed that offense,” he stated.
Wike blasted the governor for denying the salaries and benefits of the 27 MPs led by Martin Amaewhule, calling it a foolish decision that has now backfired.

For more than a year, they instructed you to take away the salary and benefits of Assembly members. You were celebrating while these people had no money to feed their families or pay for their children’s tuition. You believed nothing would happen even though many were supporting you. Something’s happened now,” he said.
Wike also made fun of the governor, saying that his administration was responsible for starting the majority of the current developments in Rivers State, such as the Ring Road.
“I started a lot of the initiatives you see now and gave them to him. Wike asked him to name only one that he started.
He claimed that insults have no effect on him and rejected the verbal abuse that was aimed at him.
“You are free to mistreat me as much as you like. I have never troubled myself because, let me tell you, abuse does not kill people. The outcome is what matters. Who today suffers from high blood pressure? Not them? We settle down and enjoy ourselves. Wike made fun of them for having high blood pressure.
Wike reiterated his position on the legislative deadlock, saying that the Rivers House of Assembly must be free from intimidation.
“I’m not going to stop the Assembly from carrying out its constitutional duty,” he continued. It should be permitted for the Assembly to carry out its constitutional mandate. Peace-loving people do not pose a threat to others.
“The Assembly needs to go to work. They should do whatever they think is constitutionally required. I shall not prevent anyone from using their powers. I’m not going to do that.
