The Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) failure to summon political figures to account during the early campaign has been bemoaned by Buba Galadima, a leader of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP).
According to reports, Galadima said on Arise Television’s “Prime Time” program that although INEC has the constitutional authority to order political players, it is unable to do so since the people who pay the piper set the rules.
Galadima emphasized that the early campaign was initiated by the ruling All Progressives Congress.
“I’ve complained multiple times in the past six months about INEC’s incapacity to hold political players accountable,” he stated.

“I came to the sad realization that since the people who pay the piper set the rules, they are unable to call them to order.
“The current government initiated the problem of campaigning before INEC permitted it.
“And this implies that INEC is unable to serve as an umpire in the current political climate.”
In the meantime, the PDP has called for the complete execution of the Electoral Act’s provisions regarding the electronic transmission of results for the general elections in 2027 and has threatened to oppose any attempt to tamper with the procedure or subvert Nigerians’ will.
The Electoral Act 2022’s Section 64(4), (5), and (6) requires that election results be recorded and transmitted straight from polling places using a Smart Card Reader (SCR) or any other electronic equipment that has been authorized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Outrage erupted nationwide as INEC acknowledged that “glitches” tainted the 2023 presidential results’ real-time transmission.
PDP National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba expressed the party’s grave worry about what he called “institutional manipulation” of previous elections during a press briefing in Abuja on Monday.
