Afrobeats musician Burna Boy’s tracks have been temporarily banned by the Nigerian DJ Association, which has ordered disc jockeys in Nigeria and the diaspora to take the musician from their playlists.
According to reports, the Grammy-winning singer and well-known disc jockey DJ Tunez got into a fight at a private event in Lagos, which led to the decision.
DJ Tunez, whose true name is Michael Babatunde Adeyinka, was allegedly involved in a violent altercation with Burna Boy and members of his crew hours before to the announcement.
According to reports, a fight broke out after a quarrel inside a nightclub.
It was reported that sources claimed that several people were involved in the altercation, with DJ Tunez allegedly being beaten throughout it.
DJs Show Support for Tunez
In response to the event, the DJ body urged its members to unify and offered support for DJ Tunez in a statement posted on Instagram on Tuesday.
The statement said, “The Nigerian DJ Association has issued a press statement to all disc jockeys to avoid playing the singer’s song, demonstrating their support for Tunez.”
The association declared that until the matter was further investigated, DJs’ playlists would not include any songs by Burna Boy.
Until further notice, Burna Boy’s songs will not be featured on any of our DJs’ playlists. The situation that happened last night involving one of our own, DJ Tunez, will be thoroughly investigated by our team,” it said.
The group emphasized that all DJs must be treated with dignity and that the entertainment sector must be fair, professional, and united.
“Please take note: At NigerianDJ, we prioritize all of our DJs, firmly believing that “ALL DJs are EQUAL,” and providing a clear, individualized service to assist our DJs and clients in realizing their aspirations,” the message continued.
Members were also exhorted to uphold the principles of equality and respect and to resist prejudice.
“Please guarantee equality and freedom for all DJs across the country so they can thrive. When half of us are being held back, we cannot all succeed.
It goes on to say, “The Nigerian DJ is fully against the discrimination of any of its #NDJ.”
However, Burna Boy and his management team have not yet provided an official statement about the claimed incident or the DJs’ choice as of the time this news was filed.
