“CAN is a Toothless Bulldog”: Outrage Over Ini Edo Movie as Critic Slams Christian Association of Nigeria’s Hypocrisy

By Naomi Onome

Comrade Prince Saviour Iche, a human rights advocate, has come to the defence of Nollywood actress and producer Ini Edo, criticising the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) over its threat against her and her crew, sparked by a movie they deemed offensive to Christianity. Iche, the critic, spares no punches, branding CAN a “toothless bulldog” and accusing the organisation of hypocrisy, pointing to alleged internal issues and inaction on pressing matters affecting Christians in Nigeria.

The movie ‘A Very Dirty Christmas’ has sparked several reactions online after the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) made threats of sanctions on the said movie. Ini Edo, the movie producer of ‘A Very Dirty December’, is facing fresh backlash after CAN claims that the film is contrary to the teachings of Christianity.

For this course, Comrade Prince Saviour Iche, a human rights advocate, has risen to Ini Edo’s defence, unleashing a scathing attack on CAN, accusing the organisation of losing its integrity and sense of purpose, and saying that instead of being mired in hypocrisy and inaction, the association should focus on critical issues plaguing Nigerian Christians.

Iche expresses strong disapproval of CAN, labelling it a “toothless bulldog” without the authority to prevent the release of the film. He noted that CAN has lost credibility due to perceived failures in its responsibilities, particularly regarding issues within the church and the broader Nigerian society.

Furthermore, Iche criticises CAN for not addressing the troubles facing its members, such as allegations against various pastors and the ongoing violence against Christians in the country. He asserts that the association should focus on internal reform rather than targeting Ini Edo, who is considered an innocent party in this dispute.

In addition, Iche noted that CAN’s leadership is failing in its duty to speak out against the injustices affecting Christians and is instead preoccupied with personal gain. Iche urges CAN to confront its internal issues rather than the criticism and sanction of Ini Edo’s film, highlighting a broader concern about the organisation’s effectiveness and integrity in representing Christian interests in Nigeria.
