On Thursday evening, governors chosen on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform convened in private in the Council Chamber of the Kebbi State Government House in Birnin Kebbi.
According to reports, the meeting, which was presided over by Hope Uzodimma, the governor of Imo State and the chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), concentrated on urgent national concerns as well as internal issues that affected the ruling party.
Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, the national chairman of the APC, was in Kebbi State, but he did not attend the meeting.
According to a report by Channels Television on Friday, Yilwatda had other engagements in the state on his itinerary.
Yilwatda said in a statement announcing his presence that in addition to the PGF meeting, he will be present for the Tinubu Kauran Gwandu Movement for Continuity State Secretariat’s inauguration.
“APC governors will hold closed-door sessions over the next two days to discuss important national and party issues,” Yilwatda stated.
“As a party, we are still dedicated to the vision of the Renewed Hope for all Nigerians, unity, and good governance.”
It was understood that the APC Governors’ meeting is taking place at a time when the number of governors in the party’s governors forum is steadily rising as a result of PDP governors defecting to the ruling party.
Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah joined the APC’s list of governors this week, and Douye Diri, who also left the PDP, is expected to join the ruling party soon.
