The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), according to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has allegedly utilized the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as a political tool against opposition leaders.
Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, claimed in a statement on Monday that the EFCC’s recent actions—such as calling in opposition members and revisiting previous cases—were driven by political motives.
The EFCC was established to be a brave guardian of the confidence of the Nigerian people, enforcing the law equally for all, whether they are allies or adversaries, members of the ruling party or the opposition. “It seems like that vision has been compromised today,” Abdullahi stated.
The anti-graft agency, according to the ADC, had deserted objectivity and was now acting as “a department of the APC, deployed to fight government critics and opposition figures.”
Along with relentlessly chasing opposition leaders, it also accused the EFCC of abandoning probes targeting APC allies.
“The public no longer sees the EFCC’s investigations of a specific former governor’s administration because he migrated to the APC with the entire political apparatus of his state. There hasn’t been a query. No documents were leaked. Not even one update. According to Abdullahi, party affiliation rather than proof seems to determine a person’s guilt or innocence in modern-day Nigeria.

The EFCC is owned by Nigerians, not the APC.
The ADC claimed that the EFCC’s and Nigeria’s anti-corruption efforts were losing confidence due to the apparent bias.
“The APC does not own the EFCC. The people of Nigeria own it. On behalf of the opposition party, Abdullahi emphasized that taxpayers, not the ruling party, are funding it.
He cautioned that relying on public institutions to impose political will weakens democracy and increases public mistrust.
Stakeholders were advised by the ADC to guard against political control of national institutions.
“The actual battle against corruption is being undermined by this perilous trend, which is also reducing public confidence in the institution. The party proclaimed, “We cannot permit public institutions to be taken over for partisan purposes.
