Lanky Nigerian-South African beauty queen, Chidinma Vanessa Adetshina has revealed how she dealt with her identity crises due to her dual citizenship.

Chidinma who opened up in an interview on Cool FM hosted by former Big Brother Naija star Tacha said that there were times when she had to cry herself to sleep over the issue.

She firmly noted that she was able to effectively handle her identity crises which sparked controversy between Nigerians and South Africans by changing her mindset.

Chidinma said; “I think for me, it has been a long journey. It has been so hard, I won’t lie, there were times when I would cry myself to sleep and be like, ‘Why me? I want it to end.’ There are times when I think that we have to look at the positive side when difficulties like this happen. I also had to change my mindset and see that maybe more of this greatness is coming as well.”

Her remarks follow her removal from the Miss South Africa competition due to accusations made by the South African Home Office that her mother had committed fraud and identity theft.

Recall that on August 7, the preliminary results of an investigation into Chidinma Adetshina’s citizenship—which has been controversial because of her nationality—were made public by the South African Department of Home Affairs.

The investigation got underway when some social media users demanded that Ms. Adetshina be disqualified from the competition because she is not a citizen of South Africa.

On Monday, August 5, 2024, the Department of Home Affairs declared that one of the candidates, Chidinma Adetshina, had given them a request to verify her citizenship. They also mentioned that formal consent from Adetshina’s mother and Adetshina herself was attached to the request.

Chidinma Adetshina, a contestant for Miss SA, may have stolen someone’s identity, according to preliminary findings released by the Department of Home Affairs.

In light of the ongoing nationality controversy sparked by South African authorities, Chidinma was forced to withdraw from the beauty competition.
