Malam Auwal, the father of the key suspect detained in connection with the horrific murder of seven family members in Kano’s Dorayi Chiranchi neighborhood, has urged security services to make sure his son, Umar Auwal, receives prompt punishment.
Umar is presently being held by the police on suspicion of killing his aunt, Fatima Abubakar, and her six children on Saturday in broad daylight. The event has caused indignation throughout the state.
Maimuna (17), Aisha (16), Bashir (13), Abubakar (10), Faruk (7), and Abdussalam (1.5 years old) were among those slain.
The suspect’s confession to the murders has been verified by the police. Additionally, he was reported to have acknowledged responsibility for a recent attack in Tudun Yola that resulted in the murder of two housewives and the burning of their home.
Malam Auwal publicly repudiated his son, calling him “useless to society,” and insisted that he shouldn’t be spared in an interview with Freedom Radio.
“What he did to my wife’s younger sister and her co-wife, as well as to my younger sister and her six children, is abhorrent. He said, “I pull away from him.”
The heartbroken father went on to say that Umar had slain and removed his own younger sister’s eyes years prior.
“I urge them to avoid wasting time on the prosecution. The goal is to get rid of Umar and people like him. Remanding them and feeding them with taxpayer funds is not appropriate, Auwal continued.
Malam Auwal said he had already sacrificed his kid and made it plain that he and his wife, Umar’s mother, would not attend any court sessions pertaining to the issue, while praising the police for their prompt action.
The 35-year-old Fatima Abubakar and her children were reportedly killed when attackers, purportedly under the command of Umar, broke into their home at Dorayi Gidan Kwari. This development has continued to be denounced by locals and community leaders in Kano and elsewhere.
