Raye, also known as Ushie Uguamaye, a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Lagos, has apologized for “talking down” about Lagos after becoming viral for criticizing President Bola Tinubu’s ruling party.
Speaking on Instagram on Monday, the Corps member apologized for her language choice and admitted that her remarks might have upset Lagos people.
She explained that she was sharing her candid observations as a visitor, not to disparage the people who live in Lagos.
The contentious statement, she clarified, was a component of a larger project, a 30-day rage challenge designed to draw attention to urgent problems in Nigeria.
“First and foremost, I would like to express my apologies to those who were born and raised in Lagos State, if my words have caused offense,” she wrote. Sorry.
As a tourist, however, I could see that the air quality and atmosphere here differed. I apologize if the way I phrased it made you feel the affection for your native state. I didn’t mean to belittle your birth condition.
She continued by saying that her original goal was to get people talking by posting 20 videos that addressed different societal issues by the twentieth day.
But the first video, which resonated with many Nigerians who shared her emotions, grabbed popularity almost instantly.

“All I wanted was to be heard when I began the 30-day rant challenge,” I remarked. If I made it to DAY-20, I thought people would start to listen and join me in speaking to the authorities.
I wanted to protest in at least 20 videos before I was taken seriously. Since many of us were genuinely upset and Day 1 of the challenge was sufficient to convince people to join me, I was fortunate not to even have to make it to Day 2.
Better is what I desire for myself. In addition, I hope you do. Whatever “lifestyle” you may believe I lead, the grievances I raised are legitimate.
With my 45+ hours a week of work, I should be able to afford to spend every weekend with my pals. I can’t, though. In reality, though, how many of us can afford to spend time with our friends? How many people can actually afford that? She said, “You work all week and don’t even feel alive on the weekends.”
