A lawsuit challenging the results of the All Progressives Congress, or APC, state congress in Taraba State is scheduled to be heard by the Federal High Court in Jalingo, the state capital, on April 29, 2026.
Abdulhadi Haruna Lau, a candidate for chairperson, filed the lawsuit, claiming he was wrongfully left out of the process that resulted in a consensus candidate at the party’s most recent congress.
Lau vehemently refuted allegations that he resigned for any candidate, even dragging the APC before the court. He insisted that there was no fairness or transparency in the procedure that resulted in the appointment of the party’s state chairman.
He claimed that important committees tasked with running the congress did not adequately involve all candidates prior to the exercise.
“I did not observe the election committee or the appeal committee, therefore I was unaware that the congress was being held. He said, “They should have met with every contestant prior to the congress if they were on the ground, but that did not happen.”
He further claimed that representatives tasked with supervising the congress were ignored, saying the committees were essentially taken over and kept from communicating with some candidates, including himself.
Lau showed a receipt for the chairperson candidacy form he had purchased and bemoaned the party leadership’s claimed failure to provide an explanation for his and his supporters’ absence from the caucus meeting that resulted in the consensus candidate.
“I didn’t resign for anyone. He argued, “I purchased my form and was ready to compete, but the procedure was opaque.
Lau revealed that he had formally petitioned the procedure prior to going to court, emphasizing that he had no choice but to pursue legal action due to the purported irregularities.
Abdulhadi Haruna is suing two other people under the case number FHC/JAL/CS/5/2026. Justice Mashkur Salisu, the presiding judge, heard about it on Friday and postponed the case until April 29, 2026.
