For the rape of a 13-year-old girl, Prophet Adeleye Akingbaso, 47, was given a life sentence by the Ekiti High Court in Ado-Ekiti.
It was understood that Akingbaso was first charged with rape and coercion when he appeared before Justice Blessing Ajileye in September 2022.
As to Justice Ajileye’s decision, the defendant was found guilty on two counts of rape and coercion, and he was condemned accordingly.
She stressed that this punishment would act as a message to others who are facing similar situations but have not yet been brought to justice.
The court was told by prosecutor Taiwo Ajibulu during the hearings that the offenses took place in Ado-Ekiti in July 2022. He described how the 13-year-old girl (name withheld) suffered significant bodily and mental harm as a result of the defendant’s coercive sexual activities in addition to the rape.
Section 4 of the Ekiti State Gender-Based Violence (Prohibition) Law, No. 18 of 2019, and Section 31(2) of the Child’s Rights Law, Cap. C7, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012, were both broken, the prosecutor pointed out.
The prosecution used four witnesses and the defendant’s statement, as well as the victim’s medical report, as evidence to support their case.
Additionally, two instructors were sentenced to 44 years in jail by the Ado Ekiti Division of the Ekiti State High Court in February for crimes involving the sexual assault of juveniles and the abuse of their official positions.
On March 2, 2022, the accused, Gbenga Ajibola (43), and Ayodele Olaofe (52), were hauled before the court on three accusations related to rape and abuse of office, according to Naija News.

According to the accusation, a 17-year-old girl was raped by the first defendant in Ado Ekiti in November 2019. A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by the second defendant in the same month, in violation of Section 31(2) of the Child’s Right Law, Cap. C7, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
In addition, the allegations said that both defendants violated Section 104 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap. C16, Laws of Ekiti State 2012, by misusing their positions as public servants in Ado Ekiti in November 2019.
When one of the victims testified in court, she named Ajibola as her computer instructor and related how, on that particular day, he gave her N200 to wait for him in front of a gas station on Bank Road in Ado Ekiti and told her to dress casually.
