The Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike and security services were allegedly planning to arrest Hon. Ugochinyere Michael Ikeagwuonu, a member of the House of Representatives representing the Ideato Federal Constituency, according to a warning issued by the Coalition of United Political Parties, or CUPP.

This was revealed in a statement released by the Coalition on Thursday following an Abuja press conference.

The purported scheme was characterized as a serious threat to democracy by CUPP Secretary-General Peter Ameh and the coalition’s co-spokesman, Comrade Mark Adebayo. A “clandestine scheme to defame, tarnish, and stifle the voice of one of Nigeria’s most vocal and incorruptible opposition leaders” is what they called it.

Additionally, CUPP claimed that the pro-Wike group had been training fictitious witnesses in Abuja for more than six weeks in order to fabricate testimony against Ugochinyere, working with collaborating security services.

The Coalition declared in a forceful statement, “This is a desperate, low-budget Nollywood production whose purpose has already failed.” “Ikenga’s dedication to speaking truth to power is God-given and cannot be silenced by intimidation, blackmail, or false allegations,” they underlined.

Plans for widespread rallies against the purported scheme were also declared by the group.

Wike’s spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, and Nigerian security services have not yet addressed CUPP’s claims, though, as of the time this report was filed.

Wike has reportedly been the target of criticism from Ugochinyere, especially in relation to his involvement in the current crisis among the opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party, or PDP.
