The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Sokoto State has warned eligible Nigerians against multiple voter registrations, stressing that the act violates the Electoral Act and attracts prosecution.
The state Resident electoral commissioner (REC), Umar Garba, gave the warning during his maiden interaction with journalists at the commission’s headquarters in Sokoto.
Garba said the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which began with online pre-registration on August 18, 2025, is targeting new voters, those that have relocated and are seeking transfers, and individuals replacing lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
He revealed that physical registration is scheduled to commence on August 25 across all 23 local government areas, the INEC state headquarters, and designated centres.
He explained that registrants must present a valid means of identification, such as a national ID card, passport, driver’s license, or birth certificate.
To curb electoral fraud, Garba said INEC will deploy the Voter Enrollment Device and the Automatic Biometric Identification System to detect multiple entries.
