A terrible fire broke out early Tuesday morning at the Orita Challenge branch of GABSTAB Petrol Station in Ibadan, killing two people.
According to a statement released by the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Yemi Akinyinka, the victims were a petrol tanker driver and his motor boy.
Akinyinka described the fire service’s quick response, adding, “We received information about the GABSTAB Mega Petrol Station, Orita Challenge, fire incident at 5.15 a.m. and deployed our men immediately.”

“The driver and motor boy were burnt to death.”
He also stated that the fire had been successfully suppressed, and that more information will be supplied later.
An eyewitness who testified detailed the terrifying scene, saying, “It happened at 5:00 this morning. The driver and his motorboy were trapped in the inferno and unable to escape. They were burned beyond recognition.
Another source verified that officials from the Oyo State Fire Service, assisted by security agencies, battled valiantly to keep the fire from spreading to surrounding businesses and residential areas.
Moroof Akinwande, the State Fire Services Agency’s Chairman and Special Adviser on Fire Services Reform to Governor Seyi Makinde, confirmed the occurrence and added that firemen acted quickly to contain the situation.
“We were notified about a fire at Gabster Mega Petrol Station in Orita Challenge around 5:15 a.m. Akinwande indicated that the matter is now under control.
