Dele Momodu, a media entrepreneur and former presidential candidate, will formally join the African Democratic Congress on Thursday, January 15, 2026.
According to reports, Momodu, a close political ally of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, was one of the opposition leaders supporting attempts to assemble a large coalition to oppose President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress in the upcoming election cycle.
The capital of Edo State, Benin City, will host the scheduled defection ceremony.
Party leaders, sympathizers, and political stakeholders are anticipated to congregate at the recently opened ADC State Secretariat.
Momodu hailed the move as a return to his roots and stated that he was prepared to side with the ADC before to the event.
He is anticipated to meet with state leaders and party elders, including prominent politicians who have already set up camp with the ADC.
After the event, he is scheduled to visit his hometown and engage with supporters.
Momodu clarified that his choice to join the ADC is part of a larger strategy to create a cohesive opposition platform that will be able to take on the ruling party in 2027.
According to him, opposition parties will find it difficult to effectively oppose an incumbent government if they are not united.
Additionally, he urged Nigerians of all political persuasions to put democracy’s future ahead of party allegiance.
Regardless of their present party allegiance, he contends that voters and politicians must work together to defend democratic values.
Momodu went on to say that his desire to run for elected office is not what motivated him to join the ADC. Instead, he emphasized that democracy must be upheld in order to guarantee a better future for the nation and its citizens, characterizing it as a move made in what he considers to be the national interest.
