Governor Duoye Diri of Bayelsa State has continued his yearly leave.
Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the governor’s deputy, has taken over the reins of power.
Governor Diri declared in a post on his X handle that his leave will begin today, November 25, 2024.
It has been a very busy year for Diri, who was sworn in for a second term in February of this year. He did, however, reassure Bayelsa State residents that his absence would not have an impact on the state’s governance.
He stated: “I am taking my yearly leave of absence as of today, November 25, 2024.
Since our second-term inauguration in February of this year, I have had a very busy year.
Since His Excellency Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, @iamElaw, is the Deputy Governor and has the authority to oversee all state operations, my absence will not have any impact on the state’s government.
Furthermore, the implementation of all ongoing projects and programs by various ministries, agencies, and departments will not be delayed in any way by my absence.
The completion of the restringing of the damaged Ahoada-Yenagoa 132kV line is a positive outcome of our assistance in the repairs of the vandalized towers during the State’s protracted blackout.
Since the transmission line is not owned by the Bayelsa State Government, our action was solely motivated by the needs of the populace.
“I am aware of the suffering and financial damage that the darkness has caused to our people. The hardest affected are business owners!
“With the extensive repairs completed thus far, I’m optimistic that electricity will be restored shortly after the newly vandalized conductor at towers 29 to 31 is replaced.

“I have also been reassured that Ula Ikata and Ihuike communities in Ahoada-East LGA of Rivers State have both local and conventional security in place to protect the area till further repairs are finished.
As we fight to bring back public power, our administration has started the process of building our own independent power plant by buying and installing new gas turbines.
As part of our ASSURED Prosperity Agenda, we are dedicated to making sure the State has a consistent supply of electricity.
