Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, a federal legislator, has criticized his National Assembly colleagues for how they have handled the country’s security issue.

During a plenary speech on Wednesday, Abaribe asserted that his colleagues frequently focus on the past rather than the present.

He claimed that members of the ruling party consistently find ways to compare the insecurity of 2025 to that of 2015, when the PDP had control.

He contended that since the two insecurity scenarios differ, this is not required.

Abaribe further criticized President Bola Tinubu for not using his position as “Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces” to look into the Kebbi state governor’s allegations that a higher authority had ordered troops to leave Maga village prior to the bandits kidnapping the 25 schoolgirls.

“We are being told to be patriotic every day,” he said. We are being instructed here that we shouldn’t say anything against… We are being advised, “Oh, you should concentrate on the present and not discuss the past.”

However, on this floor, instead of concentrating on the topic we are meant to discuss, we revert to saying, ‘Oh, the Chibok girls happened in 2015, and oh, we are now rescuing people. At that moment, no one was saved.

“17 local governments in Katsina did not hold parleys with bandits during Chibok.” In Kebbi, people were just moving to the metropolitan regions to remain, not all of the rural areas. There were no kidnappings in Niger.

“So why do we at any time we need to talk about the present issues of today, go back to start to look for excuses for our failures of today.

“Let’s act morally. We do not hold this administration responsible for its current situation, but because it is in charge, they ought to act morally.
