The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu was apprehended, but the Department of State Services (DSS) denied accusations that it kept him in solitary confinement.
According to the DSS, Kanu is not in solitary detention after the Federal Government filed a seven-count terrorism and treasonable felony allegation against him.
The Federal High Court in Abuja heard the matter again on Wednesday, and a DSS officer whose identity was kept secret for security reasons proceeded to testify.
“Solitary confinement is not a practice of the DSS,” the operative, designated as PW-BBB, stated in response to queries and cross-examination by Kanu’s legal team, which was headed by Chief Kanu Agabi, SAN, a former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.

Agabi had complained that Kanu had been held in solitary confinement for an extended period of time, which alarmed him.
However, the witness acknowledged that he was not Kanu’s “handler,” denying the allegation and telling the court that he was only an investigator.
Agabi was not put off by the answer and went on to question if Kanu’s ongoing detention was lawful, claiming it was “cruel and inhuman treatment.”
As part of his investigation responsibilities, the witness responded by telling the court that he was unable to testify to Kanu’s psychiatric condition.
