Former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi has urged opposition members to publicly oppose the Senate’s decision to reject the need that election results be transmitted electronically.
Amaechi reportedly participated in the demonstration at the National Assembly on Tuesday morning.
He told reporters that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was obstructing the transmission because it was afraid of losing the next election.
Opposition parties need to band together and stand firmly against what Amaechi called a single party’s attempt to control the election process.
“I think that all of the opposition parties, including the PDP and ADC, should come out and protest against the attempt of one party,” Amaechi stated.
He questioned the APC’s own conduct and rejected criticism that opposition forces may take over such demonstrations.
If we show up and they claim that the opposition has taken over the demonstration, what is the APC doing? Isn’t it a hijacking? What worries them? They claimed to have 31 governors, I believe. There is no Jonathan in Tinubu. He stated that the people are the only way for a good politician to know if he has performed properly.
Despite boasting of multiple governors and prominent opposition party defections to its ranks, Amaechi questioned why the ruling party would feel threatened.
Additionally, he voiced doubt that either President Bola Tinubu or Senate President Godswill Akpabio would listen to the concerns of Nigerians, emphasizing that opposition parties and civil society organizations will keep pushing back until the ruling is reversed.
